New + Literacy= New Literacies

New literacies? What are they? Why are they classified 'new'?
The technological landscape of today has transformed ways of teaching, learning, interacting and communicating.  Technology has enabled 'new' literacies by transforming old methods, creating opportunities for creativity by utilising skills, tools and knowledge that are aligned with real world experiences. New literacies have created avenues for interactivity that transcend geographical, cultural, ethnic or physical barriers. It is interesting how technology has shaped and influenced ways of communicating today, for example, the use of blogging as a way of interacting in an educational context.
